For osteoarthritis or as a prevention for joint wear, an intensive hyaluronic acid therapy helps. Ostenil is a hyaluronic medical device for the treatment of osteoarthritis in synovial joints (e.g. knee, hip, shoulder and finger joints).

The joint capsule of a synovial joint is filled with a fluid. This synovial fluid is also often referred to as “joint lubricant”, and its most important component is hyaluronic acid. It protects the cartilage surfaces of the joint from wear and tear and supplies them with nutrients. In osteoarthritis, the balance between the formation and breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the joint is disturbed. Injections of Ostenil supply the joint with new hyaluronic acid and restore the normal balance between degradation and regeneration.

Ostenil Plus contains 40 mg of active ingredient in 2 ml, i.e. 2% hyaluronic acid, as well as 10 mg of mannitol. It is therefore more concentrated than Ostenil and is suitable for the treatment of large joints such as the knee, hip or shoulder. According to the manufacturer, the joint with the osteoarthritis symptoms should receive three to five Ostenil Plus injections, if possible at weekly intervals. Such a treatment can improve osteoarthritis symptoms for 6-12 months.
